Looking for somewhere to really relax
in Thailand? Somewhere easy to get to, but at the same time away from it all?
Try Pai.
Pai is not accessible by plane, but in fact the journey by road from Chiang Mai
is one of the greatest reasons for going there. Pai is situated almost 140 kilometers
along the road to Mae Hong Son, and the route over the hills offers some of the
most attractive scenery in the North.
Buses
From Chiang Mai Arcade busstation or Maehongson are very cheap, but half the speed
of a car
Motorbicycles
are ready for hire at around B150 per day, plus fuel, trail bikes B250.Touring
by motorbike is exhilaratng if risky.
Hire cars
easy to book in Chiang Mai or from Bangkok e.g. Budget, Avis
Songtaews
can be ordered from Chiang Mai or Pai for B1,200
oneway, but are uncomfortable.
Taxis or Cars/Van with driver
from Chiangmai charge a dayrate (B1,500-
B2,000). A very liberating option.
From Bangkok to Chiang Mai
-trains run 3-4 times daily from Hualumphong Station
-busses depart from Northern busterminal
-planes Thai and Bangkok Airways fly several times a day to Chiang Mai with connecting
